Baby P - where are our MPs?

I see only one of our local parliamentarians – Portsmouth South's Mike Hancock MP – has signed a Commons motion demanding an urgent public inquiry into Haringey Council over the tragic death of Baby P.

The appalling treatment of this child, and the equally shocking bungling by local health and social services, has provoked fury the length and breadth of this country. It is frankly astonishing that the local authority received 3 stars from inspectors, yet did nothing to save Baby P - in spite of the mounting evidence of violent abuse. So why aren't our local MPs (with the honourable exception of Mr Hancock) clamouring for a full inquiry to flush out the truth behind this terrible saga?

Christmas is supposed to a time for children. Let's hope the MPs for Fareham, Gosport, Havant and Portsmouth North do the right thing and put children's interests first by supporting Early Day Motion 53. Perhaps then we can get to the bottom of this horrible mess and help make sure NO other child ever suffers the same fate.

Messrs Hoban, Viggers, Willetts and Mrs McCarthy-Fry – over to you.
